International Housekeeping/Environmental Services Awareness Week is celebrated each year during the second full week of September to recognize and honour the dedicated frontline professionals who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep healthcare and other facilities clean, safe, healthy, and welcoming.
In 2026, International Housekeeping/Environmental Services Awareness Week will be observed from September 13–19, 2026. This special week shines a spotlight on the vital role Environmental Services and Housekeeping staff play in infection prevention, patient and resident safety, and the overall wellbeing of everyone who enters the facilities they serve.
Every day, Housekeeping and Environmental Services professionals go above and beyond their cleaning responsibilities. They are trusted members of the care team, helping create environments that promote healing, comfort, dignity, and safety for patients, residents, visitors, and staff. Their commitment, professionalism, and attention to detail form the foundation of healthy indoor environments and are essential to the success of healthcare and other facilities across Canada.
To celebrate this remarkable profession, the Canadian Healthcare Housekeepers’ Association (CHHA) is proud to launch the all-new CHHA Member Recognition Awards Program during International Housekeeping/Environmental Services Awareness Week 2026. This exciting initiative will recognize outstanding individuals and teams who demonstrate excellence, leadership, innovation, and dedication in Environmental Services.
